After all, even the dead should have a day of mischief once a year.
-Welcome,said the Pumpkin Head,to the Witch Hunt! His hand pointed to a small door above wich the words "Witch Hunt" were written in beautiful, golden letters.Actually, everything seemed to have a soft sunglow that particular evening. The stars seemed to shine brighter, the full moon flickered, the trees murmurred something incomprehensible, the buildings were engulfed by an aura of mysticism. It was a beautiful sight for a night supposed to be terrifying. She smiled to herself "What a nice Halloween."
Now,she was headed to a warm cup of lemon and ginger tea at the new teashop, the Witch Hunt.Heard it was open only on the 31 of October.Peculiar, but who cares?Tea is always welcomed;the way in which other conduct their businesses doesn't concern her one bit.
The wooden door creaked when she opened it;a bell chimed above her;a mix of tea and old books gave the place an intoxicating fragrance. What happened next, she couldn't really tell. There was a woosh sound and a sharp pain in her neck and then blackness.
The Pumpkin Head watched with its perpetual amused expresssion as the girl's head dropped on the wooden floor, blood splashing from the severed neck. The black scythe hanged just above the entrance magically returned to its former position, waiting for new customers. The floor was already absorbing the crimson splashes. He watched as a small, translucent ball raised from the corpse and attached itself to the north wall.He had to admit,it was a beautiful sight, his collection of human souls. Those little, trembling puffs of light, whispering ceaselessly the language of the dead. You see,he loved to collect them. Why?Because he could,of course. And because he loved hunting;humans were such easy preys.
A tremor in the astral plane announced him that a new victim aproached the golden darkness of the Witch Hunt. His eyes sparkled.
Of all the things I've written over the past weeks,I'll say only this. There's no light,no love,no end inside. You destroyed my heart of gold, but it's my fault for trusting you were different.
I should mention it again:true friendship is nearly impossible to find.
In my sleep.
Underwater, blinded by darkness and light, guided by your warmth,I follow you.Bubbles caressing my skin, where are they from?Who breaths here,in my secluded place,my sanctuary? The past, the forgotten memories take the shape of fish.I know it's them;I feel their cold touch on my arms,my face,my neck.Air trying to infiltrate my brain,to make me remember. But it's no use. What has been forgotten, will stay forgotten.Twisting and spinning in the water, feeling the safety of it,the unnatural high that comes from the lack of oxygen.I can almost touch you now,so close.I awaken. In my mind.
A storm is coming.Birds are rushing in the sky, shots of blinding light flash the horizon,no sound is heard.I see feathers falling from the clouds;white and small.Only a few,but it's still strange.Who sheds them? Are the seaguls plucked by the fierce lightning?Or maybe angels do exist and now they make their presence known.Droplets of water begin to fall and land on my skin.Another cold touch that triggers darkness and fragments of a lost memory.Once again,I'm blind so I let myself led by warmth. Will it take me to you?A deserted road, blackened skies striken with dazzling lights, white feathers floating down from somewhere above this world, rain filling the cracks in my path,a girl wandering apparently without destination. But I know you're there. My senses never failed me,this is your warmth.I feel alive. Nowhere.
I follow you among the stars, walking on water and clouds,on figments of our minds.Because all that's real is you,the rest is just illusion and frost.I follow you in hope of warming my cold self,I want to melt,my soul will soon be beyond salvation. The colours of my worlds are taking up my vision once again and I lose sight of you.Where did you go?I am lost.
At times like this I am the most sensitive.Don't get me wrong,I'm not talking about emotional or tissue sensitive. It means that my brain is the most perceptive now.I know everything, yet nothing.I am a myriad of things, yet not a single one.I am inspired even by the mere breath of a living being and everything I know and begin to know gets mixed up.My senses are hired up,I feel exaltation and nothingness at the same time, the words in my head are a blurr and I succeed nothing.Even though knowledge is there,at my fingertips,I don't put to work a single muscle to achieve it.Why?Because, like I said, everything is amped up and,in the end,it mindfucks me until I snap out of it.This duality is killing me.I understand nothing and trying to sort out the words swarming inside hurts.A numb pain, the worst kind.I don't know what to think, who to be,how to live."Be yourself" it's bullshit.Say that to the boring peeps out there because in my case,it doesn't work.I don't have a self,I have so many that I,too,am confused.Who am I?Who should I choose to be?How can I answer that question with a satisfying reply when I want to be everything.I won't settle just for one self,my mind can't comprehend something so dull.So I end up being nothing.Nobody.Just a breathing shell with a soul attached to it,patched up from so many things that it became an abomination.Fractured selfs sewn together throughout my life.My heartstrings chime,my ribcage vibrates.I want to resonate with somebody.
First time, they met in a dream.
The Dreamworld.A whimsical map that has no true north.A land with its own rules and laws, treacherous terrains and dangerous inhabitants.Imaginaerum.
She appeared like a phantasm,a white silhouette glowing faintly. But at a closer look, you could see that it was simply a pale girl dressed in a paler attire, illuminated by the shower of stars falling from the sky.Strange world it was there. All purples and blues and pinks. The sun was setting,an obvious detail pointed by the pinkish horizon and the fluffy purple clouds swarming on the dark blue sky.The surreal light was seeping through the evergreens and bathing an old bridge with green weeds crawling up its bricks. In the air,a thick, sugary fragrance lingered;it resembled cotton candy, but how strange for a forest to smell like that.A gust of wind ruffled the leaves of a nearby bush and the sweetness in the air mixed with something slightly bitter, maybe wormwood? The girl moved and the shuffle of her dress startled him.She was pacing slowly, barefoot and looking at the sky, then at him, then at the sky again;whispering something only she could hear, then crouching on the grass and picking up a wild flower so small,he could barely see it.He wasn't surprised when she offered him the fragile plant,a periwinkle;somehow,he expected that to happen. She had viridian eyes that darkened in the pink light and turned shimmering green while watching the shooting stars. She told him stories about talking trees and clear skies that reflected another world, about celestial beings that kidnapped stars from our universe to make theirs bright, about otherwordly music and everything odd.And he sat there,in the grass, listening for hours, with eyes wide open following her every gesture, his mind unchained and recreating everything he heard.
Lying on her back and looking up in the inky sky with sparkling eyes, her silvery hair splayed around her head like a halo and white skin giving off a dim glow, she resembled one of the fabulous creatures she spoke about, otherwordly and mesmerizing.Reaching out a tiny hand, she caught a drop of cloudless rain in her palm and allowed it to slide down her arm until it vanished, leaving only a trail of water behind from which thin, rainbow coloured strings jutted out and covered her skin. And they glowed and glowed and glowed until he was blinded by the light and closed his eyes.Like that,he was in his room, the dawning sun shining through the window and hitting the kaleidoscope forgotten on his desk.
If it's hunting season, then let us enjoy some madness.
The road we lay on has cracks and it's hot.Pulling the trigger,I fire the first bullet and the first corpse colapses to the ground in a fit of spasms.Moving once, twice and done.Dead.From my sides more bullets slash the air and hit their targets with clear precision. The remaining victims are too shocked to move but it's not like they're going to die too.At least not yet.The hunt has just begun.
The first one to dash through the abandoned buildings is a kid;no more than ten,but smart enough to think about escaping. We let them a 50 m start before we chase them.In the dusk light, the blood on the pavement looks even more red and it's somehow fascinating;it awakens bloodlust and insanity in our bodies. In a couple of hours the sun will fully set and the hunt will be over, the ones who escaped free to leave, but we'll make sure there will be no survivors. That's the point of this bloodbath after all.
The rush of adrenaline and endorphins blur the world until I find
perfect clarity. Everything becomes so simple. Finally I can just let
go and exist. I can release the chains I keep locked so tightly
around that darker nature. I don't need to think any more. Instinct
and logic come together flawlessly. Regulated bloodlust driving flawless
precision.
We take different paths in our search of prey. Some are luckier than others and kill more, others have to settle for just a few,but in the end,the outcome is always the same.Death unleashed.
"Run faster, run faster, run faster.." The bruenette ran as though her life depended on it, because at this
particular moment in time, it did. She couldn't afford to be caught, not
now, not ever. She chanced a look over her shoulder as her feet propelled her forward.
At least ten of them, all following closely, shooting bullets at her.
It was a miracle she hadn't been hit yet, saved by the thick brush and
the speed of her own exhausted legs. But really, there was no chance. With every stride, it was becoming clearer. She couldn't make it out alive of this, not with so many of them.Yet,she didn't stop.Surging her body forward and snaking around trees with everything she
had,she headed into the forest. The ground seemed to quake with the fast and thunderous footsteps
of the other victims and the sound of it rumbled all around her. Patches of
mud and hidden bumps rocked her balance, but she tried to keep her
focus amongst the adrenaline storm. The shock of seeing someone have their brains blowed up infront of her worn out the moment she copied the kids' actions and ran away. It's amazing how fast a person can react, how easy they can change moods and fight for survival.
From her right, she heard two shots and sreaming. Her chest constricted with panic as realization hit her:she could be next, dying like an animal by the gun of a mad hunter, her life stolen away for nothing. Her muscles were shaking as she ran.,her long hair had come loose and was streaming behind her.A thread got caught in a branch and it teared away from her scalp, leaving behind only a sharp pain dulled imediately by adrenaline.
A certain woman caught my eye;she was running like crazy, probably hoping that she could lose us.No such luck, sugar.Oh,and now I know exactly what I'll do with her corpse.I fling my riffle to the left and shoot him in the chest;I cast a quick glance at my work and notice he is around 70.And I told them to stop bringing elders, they're no use and die so fast. The bruenette is nowhere in my sight but I can smell her blood close by.How funny, one of the preys runs right into me.The mortified look displayed on his face and his frozen body makes the killing so easy.I pin my Glock's mouth to his forehead, pull the trigger and bam!Sticky pieces of flesh and a spray of blood hit a nearby tree.
"Oh shit" Her stomach turned upside down when her foot made contact with a decomposing body.Who knows how long it's been there. Her lungs were screaming for air,her feet ached and salty tears blurred her vision. At that rate, she could very well run straight into a tree and knock herself out without even noticing.A car?Was that really a car?Allowing a sliver of hope to sneak into her mind, she changed directions and headed to the vehicle abandoned at the edge of the forest.A few metres and she could actually have a chance of survival, maybe save some others too-bang!The force of the bullet severed her head and sent it flying to the ground.
I didn't intend to behead her;now she's no use.A corpse which isn't whole won't move again. And there goes my plan of drenching her corpse in honey then send it in the bears' lair. This forest has everything we need for our hunting sessions;after all,it was designed by the mastermind who created this epic game.Well,it's about time the bullets dissolved completely and freed the toxin. How far can you push a dead person? What are its limits? All the other times the hunt took place, the outcome was the same even though we used variations of the toxin:some exploded, others wandered around aimlessly,a few teared at eachother until all that was left were pieces of spasming undead flesh. Will this time be different?
I wonder who got the kid.Nope, not wondering anymore, looks like it's mine. He's crouching in a narrow ditch with his back turned to me.Maybe I should make my presence known so he cand see Death with his own eyes.Or maybe not.Treading lightly across the fallen leaves and dirt,I slowly point my riffle at his head and shoot.Ten minutes later,I see the first movement. His right hand starts to break the fingers of his left one, then he gets up and fixes his blank eyes on me.Reaching the mutilated hand ahead,he jumps in my face.I step behind swiftly, but relaxed, all the while shooting him with the Glock. The bullets pierce his flesh, but don't stop him at all. What an interesting outcome, finally some progress. Now the real fun can begin.Unsheating a 5 inch long butcher knife,I dash forward and slice his head off.As expected, the attack didn't faze the kid at all.
Now this is what I call a good bloodbath.Severed limbs everywhere, half a ribcage stuck in a shrub, unidentifiable pieces of meat scattered around the forest floor and,of course, crimson liquid everywhere, including my designer suit.I really liked this one and it costed a fortune. Now who's gonna pay for it?
It hurts. This is why I don't like getting atached to people, because it makes me feel something close to love. And I'm no good with love;I prefer to be numb. This abyssal gap in my chest is swallowing up my mind, not a pleasant feeling, but one of helplessness.I want to die;this way I won't burden anyone anymore with my existance.
I think that if I try hard enough,I can forget this feelings too.Go back to a cold-hearted and numb creature.Yet,just the mere thought feels like a betrayal;it's like my mind doesn't want that, but what can I do?If I give in,I will lose myself and in the end I will get hurt more.Because when they leave, they take a piece of your soul. And for someone who links her soul to every being she loves, that's a cruel fate. Conclusion: maybe I should start the plan of killing those growing feelings.
Call it insane, yeah call me insane,I like to sneak out from reality and land in another reality because your reality is so boring it makes my skin crawl.Got myself some sugar rush and I'm off to a spinning world,oh it's so silent and colorful,I see rainbows sprouting out a horse's butthole. My thoughts feel claustrophobic,so many in such a small place,so I simply cut open my skull to give them some space but I can't find my knife.Oh,nails! My red nails will do the job and get even more red.Bloody red!You distract me,I forgot what I wanted to do,let's just talk but wait, there is silence again, those bricks over there catch my attention and oh how interesting it would be to see them smash that man's skull and paint their surface with human fluids, then grow legs -tiny legs- and run away from the crime scene. No one would suspect some bricks, wouldn't they?Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, that woman's breasts look like jelly;I bet she would be a juicy snack for a shark.I think I glimpsed one in the stream outside the village so be careful around there. If you fall, you will get eaten. They're staring again,I despise it when people are staring like starstruck fools without reason, judging, wasting air.But I love it when you stare, even though sometimes I think about gouging out your eyes just because I love them;they have an amazing colour, really amazing. The willow from that night is cursed, you know?It lives off people's hearts so you should check to see if you still have it;I'm safe cause I never had one.God,I despise walking around unknown people. How do I feel? What do I say?In the end it all goes away.
Her red dress shuffled as she sped past the overgrown grass to the small deserted cabin perched on the hill rising before her.The aproaching dusk bathed her surroundings in an orange-golden light, giving it an eerie, yet mesmerising aura.October in that corner of the world was fall at its finest:trees dressed in ruby, amber and pumpking;the air redolent with the scent of leaves, humid earth and wildflowers;a certain quietness settled over the land disturbed only by restless bugs or birds every once in a while. The beauty of it all seemed surreal to the blonde dressed in the crimson robe and the black lacey mask covering her eyes, yet she knew the place since long ago.
Why was she heading to the wooden shack hoisted proudly on the hill, merely a couple of meters from a dark and deep hollow, braving the more powerful winds and storms wich occured every now and then? What awaited her there for she was in such a haste?Questions not even her had answers for.She just had to go.
How do you know when you're dreaming? How do you discern reality from the illusion induced by the subconscious's strolls across a whimsical map build from fragments of memories? What if it feels so real that the thought of actually being in a dream doesn't even crosses your mind? She found out, maybe a little too late but she still grasped that piece of knowledge. There would always be something that doesn't fit.Something so uncanny that it makes you question what exactly is going on.And if that quaint detail that catches your eye is something that endangers you, maybe you should try waking up.Maybe your subconscious is trying to warn you that something isn't quite right.
The old wooden door creaked when she pulled it open, making a screaching noise that seemed to pierce the silence and echo on the arms of the wind. She cringed and stepped inside. There wasn't much to see, just what you would expect from an abandoned hut:spider webs, dust, old and dirty pieces of furniture, some broken glass. But as she scanned the room with her shadowed gaze, she found that unsual detail that gives away the nature of the current world:dream or reality. With curiosity lacing her moves, she aproached the silver mirror which shifted just before her eyes. The clear surface of glass moved restlessly like water stirred by the wind, with ocasional darker shades forming in the corner then disappearing before you could actually acknowledge them. The blonde stuck a finger through the front of the mirror and, strangely, wasn't fazed when it went right through the peculiar glass. As expected, she plunged forward, without having a second thought or reason to do so.She simply moved her body forward, like it was her purpose in life to do so.And she fell.To her death.Alice did the same in the book;she fell through the looking glass and landed in a distorted Wonderland. The only difference is that she didn't die, while the girl in the red dress dived into the darkness of the hollow resting just behind the wooden house.Who knows when she hit the rocks at the bottom or if there was solid grown there at all.
They say if you die in a dream, your heart stops in real life.
Chained to your soul by an invisible, intangible thread.
The bounds are getting tighter with each day that passes and I feel like I can't breath. It seems that I'm underwater, drowning slowly, falling deeper and deeper, helplessly floating into the abyss. My chest feels tight and something warm and restless resides there, imploding each time my thoughts reach you. There's a certain silence here, pressing on my ears, making me ligh-headed.Bubbles swarming around my form as I sink lower,a faint light above the water sipping in the darkness and illuminating slightly my surroundings;an infinite, quiet ocean.I realise what pulls me deeper, dragging my soul into the depths of this cage;the thoughts of you that crowd my mind.
If you reach your hand towards me I won't take it.If I let myself go deeper, the thread that connects us will snap and I'll be free.Or maybe that's what I hope it will happen while my mind goes numb from the lack of air.
